:: WEEK 6A(IMPRESS) 6B(POWERPOINT)

SO WHAT I HAVE TO DO THIS FOR THIS WEEK???
hye, this week i have to do impress and powerpoint based on the 21st century skills.
question for this week:

Learning by doing Assignment 7a
 Based on assignment 5 - mini research, create a presentation kit using Impress.
 Follow the guideline/rule for good presentation skills
 Upload the presentation using Google docs and share with your coursemate. Edit the presentation if necessary

impress just the same as powerpoint and very easy to do.

Learning by doing Assignment 7b
 Develop a multimedia courseware: learning about the content you choose for assignment 1 using Powerpoint
 The courseware should include all multimedia elements: video (edit in Windows Movie Maker); a layered graphic/image (edit in GIMP); (custom animation; edit in GIMP) & audio (record and edit using Audacity.
 then i have to put everything, in the powerpoint. tq.

multimedia, audio, animation, video

On this week assignment we(me and Salina) have to do two assignment; 7a and 7b(individual).
For the impress, we have to do a presentation kit based on the assignment 5; mini research. We have to follow all the rules and guidelines for creating a good presentation skills. Then as usual, upload the presentation using google docs. Finish with that, individually, I have to develop a multimedia courseware; learning about content I'd chosen for assignment 1(21st century skills).The courseware should include all multimedia elements: video (edit in Windows Movie Maker); a layered graphic/image (edit in GIMP); (custom animation; edit in GIMP) & audio (record and edit using Audacity. This week assignment can be considered as an easy one; we were fossilised with presentation. So, everything is easy breezy. However, presentation using impress was a remarkably-i-have-to-dig-in everything. Luckily, i'd managed to finish it. juz wait for the video to be watched! I have to say it was kinda amazing because i'd made it myself though. tq

::WEEK 7b:DATABASE 'OpenOffice' BASE::

Hi guys. what's going on on this week?
in week 7b i have to use open office base by doing assignment 9. in this assignment 9, there are four things that i have to do; to learn and to use, which are TABLE, FORMS, QUERIES, REPORT.
this software really acquires my patience. it is not easy as what i thought. but after several times try on the table, then i'm done. i'd realized that it is so easy, breezy. then i proceed with the next one. finish with the table, the i  have to create 4 types of forms which is the student form, parent form, curriculum form and co-curriculum form. Then, i have to fill up all the information require. When the forms are fully complete, I transferred all the data to create a real form(from table to form)and the same thing goes with the queries and finally report. in the future everything that requires me to use these database is at my finger tips, bet cha!!:) tq
report

:WEEK 7a, SPREADSHEET::

Hi guyz.. We meet again. So this week assignment, what i have to do? SPREADSHEET!!.
What is spreadsheet? spreadsheet actually, to make it simple to understand, an organizer way to create an expenditure(in my context) using spreadsheet, i don't have to waste my time calculating normally using calculator because using open office spreadsheet, 'all in one', meaning to say, the calculation is done in the spreadsheet itself. The expenditure has to include one year spending based on my salaries. So 12 months spending have to be done. My expenditure is RM4000.00 precisely. and i spend it on 'food', 'entertainment', 'car', 'bills', 'health & cares' and 'insurances'. Spending on car, bills and insurances are fixed. However the rest are depends on my need. :) at the outset, i was quite confused to calculate my expenditure using the calculation in the spreadsheet, but after being taught by my lecturer, thank God, everything was going on flawlessly as my skin, kidding!!!. So there you have it my spreadsheet. Now i know how to use it for my future endless and uncountable income.. yahooo!!!. tq.

my spreadsheet(income expenditure)
for spreadsheet in exel, i have to do students exam's marks (15 students with 5 subjects{bahasa melayu, bahasa inggeris, mathematics, pendidikan islam/moral, science}) and these are all the items that i have to do. starting with:

  1. Define name
  2. Fill Series
  3. VLOOKUP
  4. STDEV
  5. AVERAGE
  6.  COUNTIF
  7.  Graph
  8.  Sort, last but not least
  9. Filter
these skills in using exel to create an exam spreadsheet is very useful to me as a teacher. i would probably apply all the items shown above so the my spreadsheet is more organized and marvelous. tq again.

::Week 5 (Graphics, desktop publishing, word processor)::

Assignment 6A & 6B. (brochure and booklet designing)
on this week task we are required to do two assignments a booklet and a brochure. we're designing the brochure using microsoft office publisher. for my brochure, me and salina we're doing on 21st century topic. our brochure must include topic and gist for assignment 1,4 and 5. we were asked to put different kinds of images such as JPEG, GIFF, TIFF, BMP, PNG, WMF and so on. assignment 1 was on the 21st century topic that we were uploading it on the facebook.21st century skills; the subtopic for our first assignment. We have to discuss about the topic. Then, by using one of the facebook groups created, we have to create a docu-ment that explain and discuss critically about the issued to the subtopic( 21st century skills). Each member of the facebook group must read and respond to the subtopic. The owner must give feedbacks based on the given comments.Basically, 21st century skills is about skills that everyone have to master in order to have a better live. Based on the US secretary of education Arne Duncan (2009); 21st cen-tury skills is the skills that increasingly de-mand creativity, perseverance, and problem solving combined with performing well as part of a team. For assignment 4, we were doing on the We have to do a literature review based on the 21st century topic.
This particular topic is focusing more on the problem faced in implementing 21st cen-tury skills in Malaysia. Firstly, the problem arises by the critics, they argue by saying, 21st century skills as a meaningless term and distraction from the more important work of teaching core context and these types of higher-order skills cannot be meas-ured in reliable, cost-effective, or scalable ways. Secondly, lack of untrained profes-sional teachers in carrying these skills and make these skills useless for the students to learn. In addition, we also touched on the smart school in Malaysia. Smart schools implementing the ’21st century skills’ to the youngsters in Malaysia. Then for assignment 5  our team is collaborating in doing a questionnaire based on the journal made. We have to do the 10 questionnaires on the survey monkey, collecting data from it, improvise the questionnaire based on the survey made, create another questionnaires on the google doc and post it on the targeted email and facebook, collect the data and using the SPSS software, do a statistic on it, then make another journal based on the statistic. then we also created a booklet in microsoft office. these booklet is also including the same topic as the publisher. all 4 pages of a booklet is completed as i already uploaded it at my yahoo group. tq.

Week 4 : "REPORT ON" Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS )

What i have to do on this week task? On this week task, i have to record and analyze the data from the survey https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dC0tRWhpRml0NjVzRlhzM0xGVTVNU1E6MQ ,that me and Salina Sayang had done.  A software called SPSS is installed; a software that will analyze the data from the survey specifically.
How to collect data from the SPSS? Easy steps:
1. Open SPSS and start naming the variable using Variable View ..
      Example :

  •          Name: Form ID ; type: Numeric:; width : 8; decimals: 0; Label: Form Identification; values: none
  •           Name: Gender; type: numeric; width: 8; decimals: 0; Label Value (1, Male.....)
2. Data Entry (for printed questionnaire) using Data View
3. In data view, Data -> Merge / import data from Online Questionnaire spreadsheet (make sure that   the variable is the same)
4. Run the analyze ->descriptive data: Frequencies
5. Output will be displayed in SPSS Viewer
6. The table and graph can be copied from SPSS Viewer to OpenOffice Writer for reporting.

what i'd learned?
i'd learned how to use this software with ease and systematically. To be frank i dont even know what is SPSS. Then in this class i'd learned how to use it.From the data collected, we're writing a journal. the journal is based on the given format.

::JOURNAL, 21ST CENTURY SKILLS::

JOURNAL..

Problems Faced in Enhancing 21st Century Skills in Malaysia.
By: Mohd Helmi Syazwan bin Mohd Zaki, Salina Sayang binti Kamal Arifin
21st century skills is not an unknown terminology to talk among people all around the world. It vibrates and propagates through all regions and makes it very important to acquire these skills. Community in the academic field, students and teachers especially, should master these skills. Classroom teachers need to be familiar with these skills and integrate them throughout the curriculum. What are 21st century skills? Based on the U.S Secretary of Education Arne Duncan (2009) referred to 21st century skills as "skills that increasingly demand creativity, perseverance, and problem solving combined with performing well as part of a team." As to wrap up, 21st century skills means, how well students can do with knowledge and applying what they learn in authentic contexts. Their choicest or most essential , vital part of some idea or experience involves strong communication and collaboration skills, expertise in technology, innovative and creative thinking skills, and an ability to solve problems.
In applying these skills to the youngsters, some difficulties are emerging and creating a barrier in achieving it. Especially in Malaysia, we are focusing more on the exam result rather than acquiring these skills. The problem arises by the critics, they argue by saying, “21st century skills as a meaningless term and distraction from the more important work of teaching core context and these types of higher-order skills cannot be measured in reliable, cost-effective, or scalable ways”.  (Elena Silva, The Phi Delta Kappan, Vol. 90, No. 9, May, 2009). Not to forget, Malaysian now live among the first class mentality people, so, they will see these problem as a global one and they tend to criticize it when these skills is implemented in Malaysia. How to solve this particular problem? In resolving this, government should convince and win the citizens hearts. We have to open our eyes widely as we are living among the first class mentality people and it is hard for them to accept anything or almost everything when it comes to something that is not reliable and ambiguous. They will not accept these skills easily when they are not seeing the result and consequences after these skills being implemented. Government should really convincing the citizens and disseminating the ‘21st century skills’ ideas so that it can be accepted by our citizens.
The implementation also can be really unmanageable when the teachers are not trained well by the professional in carrying these skills. Once these skills is running on track, it will be obstructed when the teachers could not deliver the teaching lessons and make the students master these skills and as the consequence, watering down the objective of the 21st century skills. To make matters worse, students are leaving schools without mastering one of these skills neither communication skills nor expertise in technology. So, this problem has to be fixed. Teachers should be sent to some courses and trained well by the expertise and professional so that they will be running straight right on the track. This should be done before these 21st century skills are implemented in schools. Students have to be trained well by the teachers because “skills for the future also were recommended long ago by John Dewey, who proposed an education "grounded in experience," in which students interact with the ever-changing world”(Gohnson and Reed 2008, 1 3).
Last but not least, another problem is the lacking of programs in 21st skills is the lacking of programs of introducing and educating the students about 21st century skills. As a result, students, especially in the rural area are not aware of these skills, and can not master them. For now, one program known for developing 21st skills is the establishment of “Smart Schools”. Smart school is a learning institution that has been systematically reinvented in terms of teaching-learning practices and school management in order to prepare the children for the Information Age (Yassim, 2010). Basically, smart schools are introduced to prepare the students with enough knowledge and skills to confront with the Information Age, a time where nothing else is valuable except knowledge.  There is a phase in the implementation of smart schools, known as “making all schools smart” phase. This phase is a continuous process to acculturate the use of technology in education to ensure quality teaching & learning, effectiveness of school administration and management and teachers’ ICT competency (Yassim, 2010).  In this phase, all schools in Malaysia will gradually undergo revolutions and change is smart schools. There are four primary objectives of this phase. They are:
  1.  To produce a knowledge society that is critical, creative, and innovative.
  2. To produce technology savvy individuals for the Information Age.
  3. To bridge the digital divide.
  4. To cultivate life-long learning based on ICT.
From all of the above objectives, we can conclude that all of them are more towards benefiting technology as 21st century tools. Besides, there are no specific criteria for the students to enter those smart schools. There are no limitations on which students have the right to enroll in those schools. In my opinion, there should be continuity for such programs. If providing another program is quite costly, maybe Ministry of Education can provide a new curriculum which contains the same elements as the smart schools’ curriculum.
To conclude, all of the problems above should be solved by all parties which include government, students, teachers, and society as well. This is very important to produce a better generation with vast knowledge and critical thinking. In Vision 2020, it is stated that “The challenge of establishing a scientific and progressive society, a society that is innovative and forward looking, one that is not only a consumer of technology but also a contributor to the scientific and technological civilization.” This means that Malaysia also is very committed in producing knowledgeable citizens, those who can contribute more to the country.

WHAT IS THE TASK AGAIN??
This week task, literature review. so, what is the real task..?
Writing a journal based on the 21st century skills topic. Based on the above journal me and Salina had couple of solutions to overcome the problems appeared and basically it happened in Malaysia. Each and every source were dug from ukm digital library, Scholar/books google. Abundance of information were squeezed into one journal. "Keep it short and simple". That's our motto in writing our journal, but still precise and ample with information and evidences. Thanks to Mr. Tengku Nor Azlan for helping us in searching the information. Without you sir we are completely lost in the ocean of information. Can't wait for the next assignment! Bring it on!! chayok2!!
thank you..

::WEEK 3: COURSE/LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM::

Why C/LMS is important for teachers and students?
Well, using CMS means that you will have to spend less time on the students as the course creation and management is automated, rather than wasting so much time teaching in class with textbooks and others aids. The learners can go through the material any time they want and as many times as they want. means that, they will understand more on the topic that they will learn.  It also allows teachers to keep a tab on every student. In case somebody is lagging, hang or fall far way behind in the progress, teachers can personally assist that learner. Since the course in taken through the internet,teachers will only require a small number of instructors. These instructors can keep checking the reports and interact with students on the internet. In conclusion, CMS is important in teaching and learning process for both teachers and students.

thank you.

::After class::

What i'm i doin' at this hour??
Updating my blog of course.. I know its kinda early and Friday, but who cares.. Its my blog by the way..
Okay, regarding to the latest comment posted by my lecturer, i know, i have to update my blog as often as i can. But how frequent can i do?? Well, as what can i say, again, i'd tried to update as much as i can, however in managing time to do it, i have to say. "man i don't have much time". Within couple of weeks, this subject squeezes A LOT OF assignment. Sorry sir i can't keep up with the works given but i'll try..

So, what have i done this week.Well, yesterday i'd manage to discuss about CMS/LMS. Although there are thousands of sources in the ocean internet but just a few of them are useful. Me and Salina will make it done as soon as possible.

Thank you.

::SECOND WEEK, 21st CENTURY SKILLS::

hye.. everyday full of surprises, and what is surprise me the most?? "tonnes of works.." Short sem, you are really killing me. But never mind, i still can breath. Straight to the point, me and Salina Sayang binti Kamal Arifin are meant to be the perfect pair to complete the second week's task. However, everything turned upside down because our expectation saying that this topic was easy totally fading to the thin air. This topic is hard man...
We'd searched from one source to another and everything just came out the same..
One discussion after another, we're had came out with the complete task. We picked one of the skills in the 21st Century skills to be discussed - interactive communication.
Why we chose this skill?
this is because communication skill is the skill that Malaysian's student are lacking of. They are not speaking unless they are forced to do it. So as a teacher to be, i have to master this skill first before i grabbing it tightly and slowly push it away to my students, so that they also can master this skill.
Why we should master and teach this skills?
Interactive communication is very important as it keeps both the teachers and students stay in touch wherever, whenever they are. It'll make the learning becomes much more easier as the students don't have to necessarily meet the teachers if they have any problems regarding their studies. They can ask the teachers on the spot, through their internet.
thank you.

FIRST WEEK CLASS (GGGE1155-COMPUTER IN EDUCATION)

QUESTION:
"in your blog, create your own complete notes of what you have learned today:"
1. Steps own how to register
2. Reflection on what you have learned

On the first week, i had been given an activity by my lecturer based on a topic that covered three subs under it which are 'registration', 'usage', and 'ethics'. firstly, i had to register two official email; google and yahoo mail. In relation to this, the setting on the signature had to be done; by putting my full name, program BEd TESL and IPG KDRI as my study's place. After rummaging haphazardly on the name to put as my 'id' for both account, what is more i had to register an official 'Facebook Account'. Indicating to that, my classmates, course lecturer and course coordinator have to be added as my friends and i'd done that. Moving to the next task(electronic group discussion), i had to check on the group created by my classmates and joined it. Furthermore, i also had to join a yahoo group created especially for our course: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ge1155ipg/
Lastly, i had to register the blog and posted a new entry. All of these created 'stuffs' had come out with the appropriate urls and these urls had had been put in my signature.

Thank you.
